UPDATE MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN

Posted on December 21, 2018

Further to the update I provided earlier this month and in particular to the prescribing of (a) Continuous Glucose Monitors and Insulin Pumps and (b) associated medical supplies.

In regard to the Minister’s response provided to the Petitioner, I had taken issue and have since received a categoric assurance from the Minister for Health, that in regard to (a) above, there is no intention whatsoever to apply any form of ‘means’ testing. The judgement to prescribe either the CGM or Insulin Pump is intended to be a clinical one, in accordance with current practice applied in the UK.

Officers from both HCS and Social Security continue to work on both of these issues ahead of an application being made for central funding. As I have previously stated, this charity based application for States of Jersey funding will take time to be resolved and I ask all of you to remain patient.

In the interim, Diabetes Jersey will continue its funding of CGMs for children.
