MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF DIABETES JERSEY

Posted on December 10, 2018

You will recall that in the Diabetes Newsletter published in October, I advised that I had held discussions with the Minister for Social Security in regard to (a) the prescribing of Continuous Glucose Monitors, (b) the obtaining of medical supplies on prescription and (c) the imposition of GST for self funded medical supplies (usually Libre/Dexcom related), when the value of the consignment exceeded the threshold.

In the interim much work has been undertaken in regards to points (a) and (b) and these issues cannot be resolved within weeks. That said, from my continued dialogue with the Minister I remain positive of changes being brought about directly as a result of the charity’s intervention.

In regard to the ongoing imposition of GST as outlined in point (c), the Ministers for Social Security and Treasury will be meeting in the New Year to discuss this.

The charity acknowledges that the petition currently running on the States of Jersey website, has provided it support in keeping the subject matter at the forefront of political interest.

As and when further, meaningful information is available, I will provide an update.
